Caplan brings lengthy and broad experience in managing organizational change and developing and implementing strategies that improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

Bringing strategy to life in global industries

Before coming to the Port in 2015, Caplan was Senior Vice President for AGCO Corporation, a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of agricultural solutions, managing their worldwide Materials Management including Global Purchasing. Prior to AGCO, he held various operations management positions at PACCAR Inc, while starting his career with Westinghouse Electric Corp. He has a bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and an Executive Manufacturing Management Program from Cornell University, is trained in LEAN and is a Six Sigma Black Belt. In addition to these strategic functions, Caplan also provides leadership and direction to the Central Procurement Office.

Commitment to LEAN philosophy

Caplan is responsible for exploring, developing and implementing innovative initiatives that support a high performance organization. He is driving completion and implementation of our One Port’s Long Range Plan, operationalizing the Century Agenda. In addition he is working to ensure the port’s metrics are aligned with strategies, that initiatives such as Procurement Excellence support a high performance organization, and that the LEAN philosophy is incorporated into all aspects of the port’s business processes.
