Commuter Benefits at the Port of Seattle

Port employees enjoy some unique commuter benefits, including free parking downtown and at the airport, a subsidized ORCA card, and a Guaranteed Ride Home program. Port employees have established more than 50 vanpools, while others carpool, bike, or walk to work.

Bike or Walk
The Port supports biking and walking to work as a great way to keep healthy and protect the environment. Whether you bike or walk to public transportation or straight to your workplace, you can take advantage of the following options:
  • The Port provides bicycle racks for employee use at Sea-Tac and at Pier 69.
  • If you bike to transit, King County Metro, Sound Transit, and Pierce Transit all provide bike racks at transit stations and on buses and trains. To make the proposition sweeter for you healthy bikers and walkers, you can qualify for the Guaranteed Ride Home program when you purchase an ORCA card.
  • The Airport Office Building has showers located in the Fitness Center, and Pier 69 has locker rooms and showers available for use on the first floor.
ORCA Card
The Port of Seattle subsidizes the One Regional Card for All (ORCA) transportation pass for employees: for $25, employees get unlimited access to the entire region, and access to the Carpool, Vanpool and Metro VanShare program, plus the Guaranteed Ride Home service.
Vanpool and Vanshare
ORCA Cardholders are eligible for a Vanpool and VanShare subsidies. Vanpools are a flexible, comfortable, cost-effective way for groups of five to 15 commuters to share their ride to work. VanPools include the vehicle, insurance, maintenance and gas. Participants will be eligible for a subsidy of up to $65 per month. This benefit has been expanded to include Community Transit, Kitsap Transit, Metro Transit, and Pierce Transit VanPool vans.

Similarly, Vanshares are commuter vans that bridge the gap between work and the bus, ferry, or train.
Meet at least four other commuters at a transit area up to 10 miles from your work location, and share a van ride for that final leg of your trip to the office. The VanShare subsidy is $35 per month.
Employee Parking
Port of Seattle employees who work at Port of Seattle Headquarters at Pier 69 receive free parking at the Bell Street Pier Garage while at work. Employees who work at Sea-Tac Airport can likewise park for free at the airport. Port of Seattle Employees may also be eligible to receive validated parking at the airport while they are on vacation.
Guaranteed Ride Home
Working late? Feeling ill? Got a family emergency? If you commute to work via public transit, VanPool, Metro VanShare, or on your own feet or bike, you've got a free taxi ride home for as many as eight times per year. To participate in the Home Free Guarantee program, you need to be a current ORCA card holder. Each taxi trip is paid for up to 60 miles, one way. If this trip is longer than 60 miles, the employee pays the difference.
