Road Construction

The news you need to navigate during road construction projects to improve traffic flow in and out of Sea-Tac Airport.

Weekend travel delays Sept. 29 - Oct. 2

Reduced lanes on I-5 northbound in SeaTac, Tukwila

SEATAC – From 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2 contractor crews will reduce northbound I-5 to two lanes north of the I-5 / I-405 / State Route 518 interchange. During the closure, crews will replace expansion joints on the left side of the Duwamish River Bridge.

Drivers should expect traffic backups on northbound I-5, southbound I-405 and eastbound SR 518 throughout the weekend, but particularly on Sunday afternoon.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will be hard at work to #ReviveI5.

Plan ahead

Each day more than 100,000 vehicles travel northbound I-5 between Kent and Tukwila. During the weekend-long lane reductions, drivers can help ease congestion by:

  • Using bus or light rail service
  • Carpooling
  • Using alternative routes like I-405, or state routes 99 and 167
  • Allowing extra time to reach your destination
