Who Needs What?

  • If you are getting a red SIDA badge, please sign up for a SIDA Only class to complete your badge training requirement.
  • If you are getting a blue AOA badge, please sign up for a SIDA/AOA Combined class to complete your badge training requirement.
  • If you are getting a blue badge with AMA designation, please sign up for AMA Only or SIDA/AOA/AMA Combined to complete your badge training requirement. Like SIDA and AOA badges, AMA badges used to expire every two years. But in January 2009, the transition to AMA badges with a one-year expiration period began. Current AMA badge holders are required to obtain a one-year badge when it is naturally time for them to renew their current badge (for this reason it will take until the end of 2011 to transition all AMA badges to one-year badges). Regardless of whether an AMA badge holder still has a two-year badge or whether they have obtained a one-year badge, they must complete AMA training every 12 calendar months. In addition, every 24 calendar months AMA badge holders must complete SIDA and AOA training. So this means:
    • If it has been 12 calendar months since your last AMA training but 12 or less calendar months since your last SIDA/AOA training, then you need to sign up for the AMA Only class.
    • If it has been 12 calendar months since your last AMA training but more than 12 calendar months since your last SIDA/AOA training, then you need to sign up for the SIDA/AOA/AMA Combined class.

If you have additional questions about which class you need or don't remember when you last completed SIDA/AOA training, please contact the SIDA/AOA Training Center via phone at (206)787-6862 or via e-mail at cahoon.d@portseattle.org or goedken.a@portseattle.org.
