Two of Seattle’s most recognizable marinas have been renovated to make them even more popular with recreational boaters, commercial fishermen, and other commercial boaters. At Fishermen's Terminal, just west of the Ballard Bridge in the Ship Canal, the Port has created a state-of-the-art facility including new concrete floating docks, concrete work/loading docks, a variety of slip sizes and new utilities. After dredging of a portion of the inner harbor, the terminal now accommodates deeper draft vessels. And, piers and docks have been improved for easier boarding and loading. The renovated area also features upgraded shore power and other services. Tenants include restaurants, shops, and special services that together create a great moorage package for vessel owners and operators.
At Shilshole Bay Marina, one of Seattle’s largest recreational-boating marinas, an $80 million renovation is nearing completion. Nearly two dozen docks and piers were replaced with a larger variety of slip sizes, expanded lineal and dry moorage, and an enhanced small boat and sailing center at the marina’s north end. In addition, the project replaced the marina building, created a new public plaza with a children's play fountain, added landscaping, and designated space for the private development of a new Anthony's restaurant, due to open in 2010.
