Seaport and Airport Handled Record Cargo Volumes in 2004
Last year more cargo containers passed through Seattle’s Seaport than in any year in the Port’s long history. A new contract for Terminal 25 well help accommodate the growth projected for 2005. At Sea-Tac Airport, international airfreight export volumes climbed 12 percent in 2004, signaling strong worldwide demand for Northwest products. Total freight volumes, including domestic cargo, were up two percent in 2004. Economists are projecting healthy growth in 2005 for cargo volumes. Sea-Tac anticipates international freight may reach record levels because of the extended range of the newer cargo aircraft, says John Faulkner, aviation business development manager.
