Commission Briefing: Port of Seattle’s Small Business Program On Tuesday, May 12 at Pier 69, the Commission will be briefed on draft Resolution No. 3618 which outlines the components of an enhanced Small Business Program. The Small Business Program further seeks to support the Port’s economic interest and social responsibility to encourage competition within the supply chain and to increase the pool of qualified small businesses by expanding outreach and opportunity to a broader pool of small firms. Office of Social Responsibility Mission The Port’s Office of Social Responsibility engages with community and internal stakeholders to inspire commitment and assure that all Port business actions are conducted within a framework of socially responsible values such as fairness, inclusion, openness and economic development for all.
The Port's Economic Impact Report The Port retained Martin Associates to evaluate the economic impacts generated by the Seattle seaport, Sea-Tac Airport and the Port’s non-maritime and non-aviation tenants, based on business activity data collected in 2007-2008. Now you can read the brochure or the entire report online. The Port spent $53.6 million on contracts with small businesses located within the state in 2007.

Keeney’s Office Plus and the Port's Marine Maintenance Team named Small Business “Champions” The Port presented the first annual Small Business Champion Award to Keeney’s Office Plus, a family-owned Seattle business founded in 1947. The award was given at a reception honoring local businesses.
Office of Social Responsibility’s First Annual Open House In February, more than 100 people attended OSR’s first annual Open House for lively conversation and networking. CEO Yoshitani and Commissioner Hara shared remarks and Elaine Ko, OSR Director, presented a high-level annual report to the community on activities and accomplishments. Hire America’s Heroes The Port was a key participant at the “Hire America’s Heroes - 2008 Symposium” solving the “Last Mile Problem: Strategies for Success", held at Navy Base Kitsap-Bangor. Job seeking service members from all branches, the Reserve Corps and chain-of-command were invited. The symposium helped transitioning military personnel connect with employers and learn about opportunities with companies and organizations.
Port employee and active reserve Navy Captain, Gary Buchanan, (pictured above at left) continues to be a champion of the Port’s Veterans Fellowship Program, a program that provides employment and support services to veterans re-entering the workforce. New Port Procurement Policies, apply on the rosters today! The Port looks forward to opportunities to work with small businesses in our community. If you provide Professional and Personal Services or Small Works construction services, you must be registered on either the Consultant Roster or the Small Works Roster. Download the flyer to find out how you can register today. For Goods and Services, we encourage you to register on the Small Business Roster to make buyers aware of your business.
Meet and Greets Expand Opportunities OSR sponsored two Meet and Greets, one with Tabor 100 and another with members of the Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to create and expand opportunities for small businesses. If your professional organization would like schedule a Meet and Greet at the Port or receive an invitation to other business networking events and opportunities, please contact Tina Boyd at 206-728-3455.
Follow Port Commission Actions Online
Audio recordings and live streaming video of Commission meetings are available on the Port’s Web site, along with news releases of key actions and agendas for upcoming meetings. You can watch recorded Commission meetings Sundays at 1 p.m. on King County TV (Digital Cable 22).
