The Port of Seattle recently won the Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence in the 2007 Airport Concessions Contest. Sea-Tac was recognized for its excellent mix of national, regional, and particularly local brands in the areas of food and beverage, retail, and consumer services, has created a dynamic new experience for its passengers. The positioning of the retail and food service outlets throughout the terminal maximizes visibility and passenger movement. The design and fixtures contribute to establishing a unique Pacific Northwest sense of place. The contest received over 125 entries from airports of all sizes throughout the U.S. and Canada.
“We all know what a great concessions program we have at Sea-Tac, but it’s gratifying to get an independent assessment to validate that fact,” CEO Tay Yoshitani said.
“In addition to winning this overall award, ACI-NA picked Sea-Tac from among all large airports as having the best food and beverage program and the best specialty retail program. We received second place awards from among airports of all sizes for best new food and beverage concept (Waji's on Concourse C) and best new consumer services concept (Butter Nails, also on Concourse C),” said Sea-Tac managing director Mark Reis.
The Port has won an national APEX Award of Excellence for its 2003 Annual Report. There were 33 awards presented out of 267 entries in the category, two of which were “Grand” awards.
The APEX awards are sponsored by Communications Concepts, which publishes The Business Communications Report and the Web site, Writing that Works. They received nearly 5,000 entries this year in 11 categories.
The Port of Seattle's Web site has received an Award of Excellence in the American Association of Port Authorities Annual (AAPA) Communications Competition, announced at AAPA's 2004 convention in Long Beach, California.
A group of 30 judges reviewed 175 entries from 45 ports throughout the Western Hemisphere. A total of 19 Awards of Excellence, 25 Awards of Merit and three Honorable Mentions were presented.
The Web site has also received an "Award of Distinction" from The Communicator Awards, and international communications competition based in Arlington, Texas. The Award of Distinction recognizes projects that exceed industry standards for communicating a message or idea.
In addition, the site also won an APEX 2004 Award of Excellence as one of the most improved Web sites in the national competition.
The Port's Web site was redesigned in 2003 to provide content that is current and relevant, offer navigation that is clear, efficient and intuitive, and present a compelling, unique visual design.
In addition, it highlights special activities around the Port and in the community and promotes greater understanding of the Port's role locally and regionally.
Site content is managed by the Public Affairs Department in cooperation with Information Technology and a number of contributors throughout the organization. Most of the photography is by Don Wilson.
The visual design and architecture was developed by Phinney/Bischoff Design House, Seattle, in cooperation with the Port's Web development team.
The site was built using XHTML for structural markup and CSS for presentation -- including layout. It is targeted for browsers including Internet Explorer 5.x and 6.x, and Mozilla 1.3, with 800 x 600 screen resolution and 16-bit color.
