An agreement was reached in 2001 between the Highline School District, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Port of Seattle to assist Highline’s schools that are located closest to Sea-Tac Airport and most impacted by aircraft noise.
The agreement calls for funding the insulation and associated repair of schools, which can include ventilation improvements, the upgrade of older buildings to meet current building codes, and sound insulation in new buildings being constructed under the school district's capital facilities improvement plan
The $200-million, 15-school project is expected to take several years to complete. A share of the costs will come from a combination of FAA grant money, airport revenues and property tax dollars.
