Each year, the Port of Seattle sponsors public meetings to inform the community about Port activities. This year’s Annual Community Meetings were extremely successful! There was great attendance, interested and engaged guests who said: "The Port of Seattle's Annual Community Meetings were outstanding."
A record 256 people attended the two meetings: 180 at the Seaport meeting and 76 at the Airport. This is almost 30% more participants than last year’s totals! People heard of the meetings through the invitation in the Port of Seattle Report to the Community inserts in the Seattle Times/PI, King County Journal and the Seattle Business Monthly. In addition, the invitation was posted on the Port’s Web site and sent to 6,000 contacts via e-mail.
For many attendees, it was their first time in the Port Headquarters. For others, it was their first time in the Airport Office Building and on an airfield tour, and first time conversing with commssioners and staff. Some of comments heard during and after the meetings were:
“Thank you for the experience of seeing and hearing about the Port from an operations viewpoint.”
“We had no idea that the scope of the Port is so broad.”
“It was more informative than I had expected.”
“The presenters and narrators were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and answered all our questions.”
“Thank you for inviting us. We really learned a lot about the Port and enjoyed ourselves.”
“We’ll be back next year!”
