Airport 101

When: Wednesday, September 1, 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Where: Sea-Tac Airport
This is a unique opportunity to tour the airfield at Sea-Tac Airport—the nation’s 17th busiest airport, serving 31.2 million passengers in 2009, and employing 14,500 people. You’ll see how Sea-Tac, an award-winning environmental leader, works with airlines to divert recyclables from landfills. Participants also will get a close encounter with the center runway, currently undergoing renovation. You’ll learn about the importance of air cargo, which generates $16 billion in air freight a year. Ship Canal 101

Where: Fishermen’s Terminal
Homeport for the North Pacific Fishing Fleet, Fishermen’s Terminal is surrounded by Seattle’s maritime industrial core. It is responsible for 4,000 local jobs, providing family wage jobs and contributing to our local economy. This commercial fishing generates $404 million in wages and salaries, $196 million in business revenue, and more than $37 million in state and local taxes. Green Pacific Conference - Moving People & Cargo - Safely, Efficiently and Responsibly

Leased and operated by SSA Terminals, T-30 is the Pacific Northwest home of China Shipping, one of the world’s fastest growing container carriers. Visit BNSF’s intermodal rail yard to learn about transportation connections between ship, truck and rail, and see the latest in cargo handling equipment. Learn from the longshore workers what it’s like to work on the docks. Fishermen's Fall Festival

Where: Fishermen's Terminal
Celebrating the return of the North Pacific Fishing Fleet, the Festival begins at 11:00 a.m. with live entertainment and demonstrations on two stages, a fantastic salmon BBQ, educational booths, survival suit races, salmon fillet competition, raffle prizes, a beer garden, lots of kids’ activities and two contests: the lutefisk eating contest and the oyster slurp contest!. Duwamish River 101

When: Wednesday, September 29, 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Where: : Bell Harbor Marina, Pier 66
Board a floating classroom and see the heart of the Duwamish industrial area representing 80 percent of Seattle’s industrial land and more than 80,000 jobs, with an annual payroll of $2.5 billion. The 5-mile-long Duwamish Waterway provides commerce and jobs, as well as critical fish and wildlife habitat and public shoreline use areas. Government, community and business efforts have combined to make the waterway flow cleaner into Elliott Bay. You’ll learn about marine industrial commerce, the legacy of past industrial activities, fish and wildlife habitat restoration, and Superfund cleanup plans. Get complete details here.

Pacific Marine Expo

When: November 18-20
Where: Qwest Field Event Center
The 2010 Expo will showcase the equipment, gear and services needed to keep a commercial marine business efficient and productive. Pacific Marine Expo is the largest and longest running commercial marine tradeshow on the West Coast. The Expo serves all aspects of the market, including commercial vessels owners, commercial fishermen, boat builders, workboat operators and seafood processors.
