Proposed Shilshole Bay Marina Dock Replacement/Moorage Expansion

Public Hearing on Draft SEIS To Evaluate Dock and Schedule Alternatives

SEATTLE -- At 7 pm, Thursday, February 24, 2000, the Port of Seattle will hold a public hearing to receive comments on the content of a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) on alternatives for dock replacement and moorage expansion at Shilshole Bay Marina. The public hearing will be held at the Marina Club, on the second floor of the Shilshole Bay Admin. Bldg at 7001 Seaview Avenue NW in Seattle. Refreshments will be served.

Written comment is welcome through March 21, 2000 at 4:30 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time by writing to David McCraney, Health, Safety and Environmental Services, Port of Seattle, P.O. Box 1209, Seattle, WA 98111. Phone 206/728-3193. Comments will also be received on the Port of Seattle electronic mail Internet address at SEPA.p@portseattle.org.

"We know that Shilshole is a special place to our moorage customers and a popular place for recreational boaters and community residents alike, and we would like to get their ideas to help shape the future of the marina," said Darlene Robertson, general manager of Shilshole. "We hope to hear from as many people as possible, whether they choose to participate in the public hearing, mail a letter, or send an email."

The Port proposes to replace 21 of 23 docks at Shilshole Bay Marina to renew the useful life of the facility, upgrade amenities provided on the docks, and respond to market demand for more recreational moorage and an increased variety of berth sizes. The Draft SEIS evaluates several development scenarios: three configurations for the main marina, three alternatives for the north end of the marina, and construction schedules ranging from 16 months to five or seven years.

All comments submitted to the Port during the Draft SEIS comment period will be considered by the Port and other agencies in making decisions on the project. All comments will also receive a response in the Final SEIS.

Agencies, affected Tribes, marina customers, neighboring community groups and other members of the public are encouraged to attend the public hearing and provide comments on alternatives described in the Draft SEIS. Copies of the Draft SEIS are available for review at several area libraries, as well as the Port of Seattle offices at Pier 69, Second Floor Bid Counter, 2711 Alaskan Way, Seattle and at the Shilshole Bay Marina Administrative Office, 7001 Seaview Avenue NW, Seattle.
