Tom Tierney Named Port's Deputy Executive Director; Dan Thomas Takes Over as Chief Financial Officer

Port of Seattle Executive Director M. R. Dinsmore has named Tom Tierney Deputy Executive Director. Tierney had held the positions of the Port's Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer since November 1998. Dinsmore also named Dan Thomas the Port's new Chief Financial Officer. Thomas was the Port's Director of Finance and Budget.

"Tom distinguished himself as an administrator and leader in Seattle city government before coming to the Port 18 months ago, and he has achieved significant accomplishments in a multitude of roles at the Port," Dinsmore said. "He is an exceptional leader, and he shares my vision for the future of the Port."

Tierney served the city for 13 years in a variety of senior administrative positions. He played a key leadership role in the city's $240 million library expansion capital program. Prior to that, Tierney directed the Office of Management and Planning, which was responsible for the city's $2 billion annual budget, management functions, policy analysis and comprehensive planning.

Thomas has been with the Port for more than 10 years, beginning as a graduate intern and working his way through the ranks to Director of Finance and Budget in 1997. He has a BS in economics from Pennsylvania State University and a MBA from the University of Washington.

"Dan has ably steered the Port through huge and complicated financial transactions, has led the transformation of our debt management policies, and has fostered and stewarded a vision for new ways for the Port to manage our investments," Dinsmore said. "He has built and leads an uncommonly competent team of finance professionals."

"The Commission and I support these new appointments as Mic Dinsmore and his leadership team continue to provide world-class port services to our customers and the community," said Port of Seattle Commission President Jack Block.

The Port has a capital budget of about $380 million and revenues of about $300 million this year. More information about the Port of Seattle is available on the Port's website, www.portseattle.org.
