Port of Seattle Fire Department to Host Pancake Breakfast

Proceeds to benefit NW Burn Foundation

(Seattle)--The Port of Seattle Fire Department will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The feed will be held at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Fire Station, at South 170th and Air Cargo Road.

"This is a great effort by our firefighters to benefit a very worthy cause," said Port of Seattle Fire Chief Mike Mandella. "The NW Burn Foundation is working to both eliminate the causes of burns, and help burn victims live with their injuries.

"And beyond supporting a good cause, people will get a good plate of food. These firefighters really know how to cook," said Mandella.

The Port of Seattle Fire Department and its firefighters union, International Association of Fire Fighters Local #1257, were honored in 1999 as the NW Burn Foundation's Fire Department of the Year. The department and its members raised $31,000, which is more than any other fire department in the region.

The pancake breakfast is just one of the events intended to help the Burn Foundation. Every summer the department hosts a salmon derby fund-raiser. Also during the summer, many firefighters take turns serving as counselors at the Foundation's Burn Camp- a summer camp experience for children with burn injuries.

Requested donations for Saturday's breakfast will be $4.50 for adults, $2.50 for children. Tours of the airport fire station will be available.
