Jeanne DeMund, a former director of the International Trade Division for the Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development, has joined the Port of Seattle as Director of International Marketing.
Most recently, DeMund served for six years as Vice President of Soaring Helmet Corporation, an importer and distributor of motorcycle helmets. Her previous public employment included an eight-year stint in the state's trade and economic development department, beginning as the China trade specialist, then deputy director and finally director of the International Trade Division.
"Jeanne has an outstanding background and is an ideal person for this responsibility," said Don Lorentz, the Port's Economic and Trade Development Department Manager. "She is well known and respected throughout the international business community and is a tremendous addition to our organization."
DeMund is a graduate of Yale University, has taught English in China, and is fluent in Mandarin. She replaces Ken Pai, who retired.
The Port of Seattle is one of the nation's leading ports, with more than $32 billion in two-way trade in 1999. The Port is also one of the region's strongest economic engines, creating tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in wages and tax revenues.
