SR 518 to Close Saturday Night for Airport Safety Upgrade

10 hour closure to allow installation of new runway navigation equipment

State Route 518, the major route between Interstate 5 at Southcenter and Burien, will be closed in the vicinity of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for about 10 hours beginning at 10 pm on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003. The closure will allow crews to install a structure over the freeway that will help guide airplanes during periods of low visibility. The freeway is expected to re-open at approximately 8 am.

SR 518 will be closed just west of the westbound exit to Sea-Tac. Travelers needing to get from I-5 to the airport will not face any detours. Motorists headed from downtown Seattle to Burien should use SR 509 rather than I-5.

The closure has been coordinated with the Washington Department of Transportation, and detours will be well marked.
