Small construction businesses need look no further than their desktop computers for up-to-date information on construction contracting opportunities with the Port of Seattle. The Port's new Web-based service -- Small Works Online -- gives contractors a new tool for tracking and bidding on Port contracts at Sea-Tac Airport, the Seaport and other Port properties.
Participating vendors can access the Small Works Online Web site 24-hours-a-day to check on contracts and invoices, view current bids and update their profile. Each vendor can list up to five craft codes that are used to solicit bids for different kinds of jobs.
The jobs listed on Small Works Online are all valued at $200,000 or less. They include contracts for work such as floor covering, electrical, landscaping, carpentry, painting and more.
To register, visit the Port of Seattle Web site (www.portseattle.org) and click the "Business Opportunities" link. A Small Works Online link in the navigation bar connects to the login or registry page. Simply fill out the online form, including business license number. All registration information is confidential and protected with a secure password.
Small Works Online makes it easy for vendors to access information on contracting opportunities, and helps the Port fulfill its commitment to doing business with a diverse range of contractors.
"The Small Works Online program will help us reach a greater number of qualified vendors for small works contracts," said Dan Thomas, the Port's Chief Financial Officer. "That helps the vendors, but it also benefits the Port through more competitive pricing resulting from a larger pool of potential vendors."
Since Small Works Online went live in February, the original list of 1,500 vendors has been refined and 260 new, qualified vendors have registered.
