Port of Seattle's Dinsmore to co-Chair APEC
Port of Seattle CEO M. R. Dinsmore has been named 2005-2006 co-Chair of the National Center for APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) along with Troy Clarke, President, General Motors Asia-Pacific. Dinsmore and Clarke were formally announced as the new co-Chairs at the 10th Annual APEC Summit on November 18 in Santiago, Chile.
"It's an honor to have the opportunity to serve with Mr. Clarke during this time of growth in trade and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region," said Dinsmore. "I'll work to help APEC economies continue to bring the benefits of trade to people throughout the Asia-Pacific region."
"More than 97 percent of the Port of Seattle's international trade takes place within the Asia-Pacific region," said Dinsmore. "The health of APEC economies is directly tied to the health of the economy here in the Puget Sound region and across the Pacific Northwest."
Dinsmore, who has spent his career in international trade and transportation, has been CEO of the Port of Seattle since 1992. He serves on several maritime related boards and commissions, chairs the Board of Directors of the Seattle Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank and is a founding member of the board of the National Center for APEC.
The National Center was established in Seattle following the first meeting of the APEC Economic Leaders in 1993. The National Center is the primary voice of the U.S. business community on trade issues in the Asia-Pacific region and is supported by a board of 38 U.S. member companies.
