Public Scoping Meeting Set for Environmental Review of the Airport Comprehensive Development Plan
The Port of Seattle invites the public to attend a public meeting on Thursday, August 25, 2005 to learn more about and comment on the range of issues that should be addressed in the environmental review of the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
The Port is preparing a CDP for Sea-Tac that refines the terminal and landside development programs proposed in the Airport's Master Plan Update of 1997. Since 1997, airport operations have undergone profound changes with new technology for ticketing, changes in passenger travel behavior, and increased security requirements. The CDP reflects these changes in the aviation industry by maximizing use of existing facilities and reducing the extent and cost of construction proposed in the Master Plan. The Port will conduct an environmental review of the CDP to identify and minimize or mitigate potential environmental impacts.
An open house where the public can speak with project staff to learn more about the CDP and the environmental review process will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. A presentation by Port staff starts at 6 p.m., followed by a formal public comment period.
Comments also may be submitted throughout the meeting or in writing until September 20, 2005. Comments will be considered during environmental review of the CDP under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).
The meeting will be held at the Airport Conference Center at the south end of the airport terminal. Directions and parking details can be found at
http://www.portseattle.org/downloads/community/environment/Directions-airport.pdf or by calling (206) 248-6851. Parking in the airport garage will be validated for those attending the scoping meeting. Accommodations for people with disabilities or alternative languages can be provided upon request. Please contact Cynthia Alvarez at (206) 956-4508 or Alvarez.C@portseattle.org at least one week prior.
