Port of Seattle Commission President Bob Edwards comments on Ron Sims' announcement regarding Southwest Airlines

Port of Seattle Commission President Bob Edwards today said King County Executive Ron Sims made the wise choice to halt consideration of Southwest Airlines' proposal to move flights to Boeing Field.

"We applaud this decision. It is best for the region and air passengers," Edwards said.

"The region made a decision a decade ago to invest in Sea-Tac Airport as our region's primary commercial airport. Ron Sims has always supported regional planning, and I want to thank Ron for recognizing the high costs to the region if Southwest Airlines and other airlines were to move to Boeing Field," he said.

"The Port of Seattle really values airline customers Alaska, American and Southwest Airlines. We want them to stay, grow and succeed. The Port is doing everything possible to keep costs low at Sea-Tac and provide the very best airport facilities for airlines and our passengers," Edwards said.

"I also appreciate that County Executive Sims made his decision expeditiously, so that the airport, the airlines and aviation businesses can continue planning for the future with much more confidence," Edwards said.
