Port of Seattle Police Department
National Peace Officers' Memorial Day Ceremony

May 15 at Sea-Tac Airport Flag Plaza, 9 a.m.

The Port of Seattle Police Department Honor Guard will conduct a brief formal ceremony lowering the flag on May 15, 2009, 9 a.m. to recognize National Peace Officers' Memorial Day.

The men and women of the Port of Seattle Police Department unceasingly provide a vital public service to the Port of Seattle, the citizens of our community, and millions of travelers each year. Port of Seattle Police will gather at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Flag Plaza to commemorate law enforcement officers, past and present, who have fallen in the line of duty.

It is important to remember the continued service and sacrifice of the 800,000 law enforcement officers who protect our communities and safeguard our way of life each day. Flags across the U.S. are to be flown at half-staff in remembrance of the nearly 18,661 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in our nation's history.

As part of National Police Week, the names of 133 law enforcement officers killed in 2008 will be formally dedicated at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC, on May 13, during the 21st Annual Candlelight Vigil. Three members of the Port of Seattle Honor Guard will participate in the national service.
