Port of Seattle Statement on the Municipal League of King County Port Study Report

Port of Seattle commissioners and staff members are appreciative of the Municipal League’s long history of serving King County citizens.

We did not see the final copy of the report prior to its release; we are currently reviewing the document. The port has worked diligently with the Municipal League since the study’s inception. Over the past 18 months, Port of Seattle staff members worked closely with members of the Port Study Committee of the Municipal League of King County, providing our full participation in their efforts. The port provided all documents requested, save confidential documents that are not property of the port. As noted in the report, staff members readily made themselves available for multiple briefings for all members of the study group.

We believe that the report does not reflect some key data provided by the port, which consequently affects some of the report's conclusions. Nonetheless, the port welcomes any feedback that makes our port a stronger, more efficient economic engine for the region.

Many of the reforms suggested in the Municipal League report have already been implemented or are well underway. For a complete list of the many ways the port has strengthened governance, improved our business practices, and become a more transparent and accountable organization, please visit the Port's Accountability page. The port’s response to initial draft of the Municipal League’s report is also available there.
