Terminal 91 Construction

Berth M Reconstruction Project

The Port is replacing approximately 220 linear feet of remaining creosote timber apron structure with a new concrete and steel pile supported concrete apron structure, including approximately 36 linear feet of apron underneath the existing Magnolia Bridge. The work is being performed by General Construction Company and is scheduled to be completed by the end of April 2008. Because of limited working space under the Magnolia Bridge, and to avoid impacts to the bridge foundations, a micro-piling supported apron structure will be constructed for the section extending under the bridge.

Beginning on Monday, November 19 (around noon), concrete pile installation will begin. The schedule for this project is anticipated to last approximately four weeks, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. There will be no pile driving done on Thanksgiving or the day following.

The contractor is required to adhere to the city noise ordinances at all times and additional steps will be taken to minimize pile driving noise. To ensure compliance, noise testing will be done on a regular basis. As a reminder, the Terminal 91 noise hotline, 206-728-3706, is monitored 24/7.

Terminal 91 Cruise Ship Terminal Project

The T91 Cruise Ship Terminal will be a 144,000 square foot, two-story building supported by an auger cast pile and pile cap foundation. The General Contractor is PCL Construction Services and the project will be completed by the start of the 2009 cruise season.

Sitework includes demolition of existing utilities, concrete foundations, and removal of existing asphalt. New utilities to be constructed include the fire water system, domestic water system, sanitary sewer system, electrical power, and communications. The electric improvements will include ductbank extensions for shore power service to the cruise vessels and construction of two new substations to serve the existing pier power. Sitework will also include drainage, paving, fencing, and striping. There will be some work performed by other contractors and Port construction staff, including upland parking area, fencing, utility work, shorepower equipment and gangway relocation, signage, and dredging and habitat mitigation.
