New Garden Area at Shilshole

Photo by Michael Harthorne - BallardNewsTribune

A new temporary garden area adjacent to the marina plaza is open for the pleasure of our boaters and the general public. This green space, designed and planted by Port staff, will remain until a restaurant or retail business is selected to build there at a future date.

The garden was created using landscape materials like rock, driftwood and granite from other Port properties. The crew used drought tolerant, and native, non-invasive plant materials to reduce the need for excess watering and pruning. The Port has maintained all its properties using 100% organic landscape techniques since 1998.

Some plants in the garden include: Lavender, Rockrose, Rugosa Roses, Spirea, Heather, Potentilla, Germander, Daylilly, Geranium and Mugo Pine.

The garden and plaza may be reserved for an event or group activity by contacting the Marina Office at (206) 787-3006.

Pay-It-Green

Begining April 1, 2010, the Marina Office will no longer accept payments by check. Checks may be mailed to the Port of Seattle. Cash payments will still be accepted in the Marina Office. Marnia Security

Safety - Security Improvements for Dock Gates
Shortly after the new dock gates were installed, customers noticed that someone could get around the gate by climbing along the exterior of the gate enclosure. Marina management and operations partnered with the Port’s maintenance shop to devise a fix to discourage this type of security breach. In addition, customers discovered that strong wind catching the gates could keep them from closing and locking properly. Again, the Port’s maintenance shop fabricated and tested new door coverings that reduced wind resistance allowing the gates to close properly. These improvements are scheduled for installation over the next several weeks for all gates.
