Q: I already have $500,000 of liability insurance already. Is that okay?
A: Yes. The minimum requirement is $300,000 for non-commercial boaters ($1million for commercial vessels)
Q: Is there any situation where I don’t have to have liability coverage?
A: Yes. You do not have to have liability coverage if your boat is in dry moorage at Shilshole and you DO NOT use one of the hoists.
Other exceptions include:
Q: How can I get $300,000 worth of coverage if my boat is only worth $60,000?
A: Insurance to cover the value of your boat, equipment, motors and dinghy is most often referred to as “hull” insurance. Protection and Indemnity or liability coverage is coverage in case of an accident, injury or damage to another’s boat, property or persons. We do not require that you have hull insurance.
Q: What was the basis for requiring $300,000?
A: $300,000 is the standard minimum requirement of most marinas in Western Washington and the standard minimum coverage provided by insurance companies in this area.
Q: Where do I send the information and get answers to my questions?
A: You may contact us at: Shilshole Bay Marina, 7001 Seaview Avenue N.W., Suite 100, Seattle 98117. Fax: (206) 787-3391 or e-mail.
You will be notified if evidence of liability insurance paperwork has not been received in the marina office by October 1, 2009 or if any of the information is incomplete. Due to the volume of paperwork coming into the office, we are not able to confirm if your paperwork has been received at this time. We appreciate the cooperation and support we have received regarding this new policy.
