Environmentally Preferable Products
In 2009, the Port adopted an Environmental Purchasing Policy. The policy aims to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of our purchasing decisions by buying goods and services that improve public health and safety, reduce pollution, and conserve natural resources.
While the Port already has made substantial gains in purchasing environmentally preferable products, there remain significant opportunities to improve our performance in this area. Toward that end, we intend to focus on robust implementation of the new policy so that in the near future, environmental considerations will be part of normal purchasing practice, consistent with such traditional factors as price, performance and availability.
