Equity Lens:
College has an entire division doing outreach to minorities. They bring groups of women, girls and students from local tribes to visit his classroom. David's seen a major increase in # of women going into welding, currently 30% of welding enrollment. They all get jobs in Portland or WA. Ages range from 19-70. Some learn welding to support a hobby. Average student age is 30-35. They’ve been in the workforce and are seeking a “career” that pays good money, as opposed to holding down jobs. Considered to be worker retraining. Welding program is continually evolving with industry trends to stay current. Due to increase in aluminum welding, school will be doubling training in that area next year.
