Commissioner Creighton Takes on National Transportation Role

May 1, 2014

Port of Seattle leaders continue to lead the national conversation on growing new jobs through international trade and investments in infrastructure. Commissioner John Creighton today participated in his first meeting of the distinguished board of directors of the Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors(CAGTC). He brings many years of experience on the state’s Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board to this national organization dedicated to easing the flow of goods across the country.

“The Puget Sound is the 3rd largest container trade gateway in the nation and is a vital component of a national transportation system. In my role on the CAGTC board of directors, I will have the opportunity to join transportation leaders across the country to advocate for policies that encourage transportation investments in our region,” said Commissioner Creighton. “Since 2009, U.S. exports have supported a resurgence in manufacturing all across the country. These manufacturing jobs will only grow if we make the right investments in critical trade corridors.”

CAGTC includes over sixty diverse organizations, including state transportation agencies, ports and private sector businesses, working together to bring national attention to the needs of the U.S. freight transportation system. In his new role as a board member, Creighton will hit the ground running as he and other public and private sector leaders make recommendations on the Obama Administration’s proposal for surface transportation funding, the depleted highway trust fund and MAP-21 Reauthorization. CAGTC will advocate for increased federal investments in trade gateways, intermodal connectors and freight facilities.
