The Port of Seattle was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Port Commissioner Pat Davis. From 1985 to 2009, Commissioner Davis served the people of King County with distinction, becoming the first female commissioner in Port of Seattle history. She paved the way for a generation of women who followed in her footsteps in positions of local leadership.
Throughout her decades of public service, Commissioner Davis was known for her unwavering commitment to the Port’s mission and future, and for her leadership during times of both opportunity and adversity. Through her gracious leadership she expanded opportunities for women across the organization. During her tenure, the Port took on major transformations along the Central Waterfront, including construction of the new Bell Harbor Conference Center and cruise terminal at Pier 66 and the new headquarters at Pier 69. She also guided the Port toward making major terminal and airfield improvements at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Her vision and effective advocacy played a major role in shaping the Port’s modern identity as a leader and innovator in our core industries.
Quick to recognize and highlight the good work of others, Commissioner Davis’ spirit lives on, including through the Pat Davis Legacy of Leadership Award. This award recognizes women leaders who embody the Port’s values and who, like Commissioner Davis, change the conversation through courage, service, and example. The annual awards will mean even more as the Port stewards Commissioner Davis’ memory.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Commissioner Davis’ daughters and extended family.
