Equity Lens:
Diversity in Marine Biology is less, compared to other programs. Want to increase diversity of incoming students. Best onboarding opportunity is via transfer students from 2-yr colleges as more affordable path--strengthen this.
Got grant for “bridge program” for students moving from community college to UW. GEODUC: 10-day summer program to ease transition. All expenses paid + $1,400 stipend. Hands-on field work with faculty that continues into their 1st year, helps develop skills and context. Helps students understand context in their own communities. Cohort will define their issues. Smaller “college community" with smaller meetings.
