What are the quarantine guidelines following travel?

International Travel
U.S. citizens and permanent residents returning to the U.S. are directed to self-quarantine. Recommended precautions include stay home for 14 days after arrival, self-monitor for symptoms, avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe illness, and follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop.

Read the CDC's guidance for after you travel internationally, including getting tested after higher risk travel. Testing before and after travel can reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19. Testing does not eliminate all risk, but when paired with a period of staying at home and everyday precautions like wearing masks and social distancing, it can make travel safer.

Domestic Travel

The Washington State Department of Health is adopting the new CDC guidelines to reduce quarantine for people who have been exposed to COVID-19. Both the Washington State Department of Health and CDC currently recommend a quarantine period of 14 days for all arriving passengers, but there are circumstances that allow for a shortened quarantine, including if a person who is in quarantine has no symptoms, quarantine can end after Day 10, and if a person who is in quarantine receives a negative COVID-19 test and has no symptoms, quarantine can end after Day 7. Get tested within 48 hours before ending quarantine. Learn more from Washington State Department of Health.
