Statement for Aircraft Incident at SEA Airport — Saturday, June 14, 2025
At 12:15 p.m. on June 14, Port of Seattle Police were alerted to a direct threat made by a passenger to Alaska flight 2123 scheduled to depart to Walla Walla.
The flight crew followed protocol and taxied the aircraft to the outboard runway, 16R/34L, furthest from the terminal for safety purposes. POSPD responded to investigate and assess the situation. Two runways (16R/34L and 16C/34C) were closed during the investigation while one runway (16L/34R) remained open.
A suspect was taken into custody. All passengers were deplaned from the aircraft and cleared through K9 inspection along with the aircraft and baggage. No suspicious items were found.
The Center runway was re-opened at 1:45 p.m. All passengers were deplaned and boarded on buses by 2:00 p.m. and taken to the D Annex for rebooking by the airline.
Further investigation found the suspect made a flippant remark regarding a bomb to the flight crew. All such remarks are taken seriously and investigated with an abundance of caution.
The aircraft was cleared by 3:00 p.m. and subsequently towed back to the terminal. Runway 16R/34L was re-opened by 3:15 p.m.
The FBI and Port of Seattle Police are reviewing and will work with prosecutors to determine whether charges are appropriate.
