Port of Seattle Commissioner Ryan Calkins today officially assumed the role of Commission President for 2026. Under President Calkins’ leadership, the Port will continue its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and economic opportunity for the region, building on years of progress toward a cleaner, more equitable future.
“2026 is a critical year for our region as we host major events like the World Cup and the celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, and the Port of Seattle is essential to our success. 2026 will also be an important year for building the sustainable economy,” said Port of Seattle Commission President Ryan Calkins. “The Port of Seattle is transforming our transportation sector through pioneering investments in clean fuels and vital support for training and education that equips the next generation of workers. I'm honored to serve as Commission President this year."
During the Commission’s January 13 meeting, Calkins accepted the gavel from Commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa, who served as president in 2025. Commissioner Fred Felleman was selected to serve as vice president, and Commissioner Sam Cho will serve as secretary.
The Port of Seattle enters 2026 with momentum from major achievements in 2025, including progress on decarbonization initiatives, expansion of shore power infrastructure, and advancement of the Maritime Innovation Center at Fishermen’s Terminal. This year marks several defining moments as the Port prepares for global events like this summer’s FIFA World Cup and advances the master planning process for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) — critical steps to ensure the region is ready for future opportunity.
These efforts support the Port’s long-term strategy to meet the region’s growth while reducing emissions, fostering habitat restoration, and creating pathways to family-wage jobs in maritime and aviation industries.
The Commission and Executive Director Stephen P. Metruck will share more about the Port’s 2026 priorities at the State of the Port event on March 12.
