Port of Seattle Announces Three Community Informational Open Houses to Discuss Sustainable Airport Master Plan

Open Houses scheduled in Des Moines, Downtown Seattle and Bellevue

February 23, 2015

The Port of Seattle will be holding three open houses around the Puget Sound region to discuss the Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) which will develop a long-term blueprint for the future development of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The three open houses will allow the public to understand the growth forecast for the airport and what potential options are being evaluated to accommodate the growth.

The Puget Sound region is in a period of rapid growth and Sea-Tac is reflecting that with passenger numbers setting a record for the fourth straight year. In 2014, Sea-Tac was the fastest growing large hub airport in the U.S., serving nearly 37.5 million passengers. The forecast projects those numbers will rise to 66 million passengers by 2034.

The SAMP aims to meet the needs of the airport’s customers by forecasting future demand and the projects required to meet that demand, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Focus areas include airfield enhancements within the current three-runway configuration, terminal development and potential expansion, roadway improvements and cargo facility modernization.

The public is invited to join airport staff and consultants to review and discuss the Sustainable Airport Master Plan at these three upcoming open houses:

  • March 4 –Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines, 5 – 7 p.m.
  • March 19 –Seattle Central Library (WaMu Room), 5 – 7 p.m.
  • April 2 –Bellevue Public Library, 5 – 7 p.m.
