The Port of Seattle welcomes the only year-round service to Mexico as Volaris Airlines today announced service between Guadalajara and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with three weekly nonstop flights beginning July 7, 2016.
“Guadalajara is the second largest city in Mexico and is particularly important to residents of the State of Washington as the capital of our sister state Jalisco,” said Port of Seattle Commission President John Creighton. “The city is also a major hub for travelers and Volaris’ service will provide Seattle and Washington State with a prime new connection to many other cities in Mexico for leisure and business travelers.”
Volaris Commercial Director, Holger Blankenstein, addressed the advantages of the new route for customers who wish to travel between these two destinations. “We are very pleased to grow our portfolio, increasing the connectivity that Volaris provides both countries, always seeking to shorten distances between friends and family—which remains a critical objective for us at Volaris.”
Volaris currently operates 45 routes to 21 U.S. destinations. Since beginning their operations in March 2006, Volaris has increased its routes from an initial five to a current 150 and its fleet from four to 59 aircraft. Volaris currently operates over 250 daily flight segments on routes connecting 40 cities in Mexico and 23 international cities in the United States with Mexico’s most modern airplane fleet.
Sea-Tac has been the fastest growing large hub airport in the U.S. for the past two years. In 2015, passenger traffic set a record for the fifth straight year with over 42.3 million travelers. Through the first quarter of 2016, normally the slowest travel season, passenger numbers are up ten percent.
