WestJet to Begin New Service from SEA Airport to Calgary

Canada’s second-largest carrier will connect with its largest hub starting in November
August 4, 2021

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) welcomes today’s announcement that WestJet Airlines will begin service between Seattle and their main hub in Calgary, Canada (YYC) beginning on November 4, 2021. This will be WestJet’s first service to Seattle and will provide additional options for travelers to and from Alberta’s largest city.

“Despite the challenges of the past year, we are a gateway for business and leisure travel to our region with the addition of another brand-new carrier to SEA Airport,” said Lance Lyttle, SEA Airport Managing Director. “The region’s resiliency during one of the most challenging times in our industry continues to attract additional choices for visitors, business, and residents of the region. Whether you’re traveling for business or taking a long-awaited trip to the beautiful Canadian Rockies, WestJet is a valuable addition to passenger choices.”

WestJet will begin Seattle service with four weekly flights using WestJet Encore’s Q400 aircraft, increasing to two daily flights by May 19, 2022.

“We are thrilled to welcome Seattle to WestJet’s network, with nonstop service from Calgary, providing the only direct option between these two incredible cities this winter,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer. “Whether you’re a sports fan excited to catch your favorite games in person, or planning to reconnect with friends and family, this route provides our guests in Western Canada with even more affordable options to visit the Northwestern U.S. and re-affirms our commitment to our investment in our Calgary home.”

With Calgary’s U.S. preclearance facilities, passengers will be able to clear U.S. Customs & Immigration before leaving Canada, arriving as a domestic flight at SEA and allowing for shorter connection times for onward travelers. And as a close partner of Delta Air Lines, passengers on WestJet will be able to earn miles and enjoy reciprocal elite loyalty benefits on either airline.

International Service at SEA

Over 60 percent of pre-pandemic international flights have returned to SEA, including brand new services such as WestJet and Qatar.

Even though the WestJet service will be pre-cleared, the new International Arrivals Facility, the most complex capital development project in the history of the airport, will dramatically improve connection time, efficiency, and service to millions of annual international travelers. The facility will increase the number of gates capable of serving international wide-body airplanes from 12 to 20.
