Sea-Tac Airport Unveils New Bicycle Assembly Station, Celebrates "Bike Month"

May 6, 2015

With May designated as National Bike Month, the Port of Seattle is unveiling a new bicycle assembly/disassembly station, along with other updated bike amenities available to cyclists traveling to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new assembly/disassembly bike station includes tools and a bike pump enabling individuals to more easily assemble and disassemble their bikes before and after their flights. Additional amenities include new bike racks, storage options (both short- and long-term), improved signage, and an updated bicycle resources webpage.

“Washington ranks as the number one bike-friendly state in the country,” said Steve Rybolt, Port of Seattle Environmental Management Specialist, who introduced the idea of the assembly/disassembly station and new bike storage areas. “The various bicycle resources available at Sea-Tac are part of a larger initiative by the port to promote bicycle accessibility to and around the airport, and increase transportation options for airport visitors.”

Installed in December 2014, and unveiled for spring travel, the bicycle assembly/disassembly station is conveniently located on the baggage claim level between carousels 12 and 13. The station is directly across from Ken’s Baggage, which also offers bicycle boxes for sale.

Sea-Tac’s new locally manufactured bike racks are scratch resistant and offer a combined 59 stalls across four convenient locations throughout the terminal and airport garage. The three short-term storage/day use parking locations can be found on the fourth floor parking garage (sky bridges 1 and 6) and on the arrival drive near the south end bus stop. Long-term storage can be found on the baggage claim level between carousels 12 and 13 (along the back wall) next to the assembly/disassembly location. In order to store your bike longer than 30 days it must be registered. To register your bike, or if you have questions, please call 206-787-5525.

In addition to the above resources, we’ve also added more visible way-finding signs to help cyclists locate airport bike amenities. Our website has also been updated to include current bike routes, a map of bike facilities, helpful transportation information, and links to local bicycle advocacy groups. A link to the web page can be found here.

Whether you’re planning on riding your bike to the airport and storing it during your trip, or in need of a location to disassemble/assemble your bike for air travel, we’ve got you covered and look forward to seeing you at Sea-Tac. Safe travels!
