Port Statement on U.S. Capitol Violence

January 8, 2021

Statement from Port of Seattle Commission President Peter Steinbrueck:

“The Port of Seattle strongly condemns the senseless, violent act of insurrection at the United States Capitol Building and throughout Washington, D.C. this week.  While free political speech is a constitutional right, such violent acts that threaten our democracy and safety are not. It was heartbreaking to see these lawless individuals exploit our cherished free and fair electoral process as justification to cause political disruption, property damage to the national capital, and physical harm to elected officials. This is not what America stands for."

“The Port of Seattle will never tolerate or condone such acts of violence, harassment, or intimidation. We express our deep gratitude to our Congressional delegation and the dedicated  public servants who protect public safety and every day the fundamental purpose of our democracy, against  these very real threats to our fundamental freedoms and democracy. Today, and every day we will stand with and support those in public service holding the line against those who would do harm through willful and malicious acts of violence and bigotry.”
