Summering in Switzerland just got easier with the new seasonal nonstop Edelweiss Air service to Zurich from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Yesterday, SEA welcomed the new route and airline partner with a ribbon cutting and gate celebration as it kicked off the airport’s busiest travel season. The twice-weekly service makes Seattle the airline’s fourth destination in the U.S.
“We want to extend a very warm welcome to our newest airline partner, Edelweiss Air,” said Port of Seattle Commissioner Hamdi Mohamed. “Travelers in our region are thrilled to have a direct connection to the world-class city of Zurich and cultural hub of Switzerland. Zurich’s scenic backdrop and proximity to nature and water will speak to Pacific Northwesterners, and we’re just as excited to welcome Swiss travelers here. This partnership supports good local jobs and contributes to a strong regional economy, while SEA continues to prioritize safety in meeting demand for global connectivity.”
“The first flight from Seattle to Zurich is a milestone for Edelweiss,” said Bernd Bauer, CEO Edelweiss. “It underscores our commitment to connecting Switzerland with exciting destinations around the world. We are delighted to now welcome travelers from the Pacific Northwest of the USA and to further expand our ties with the Seattle community.”
Edelweiss, Switzerland’s leading leisure airline, is the sister airline of SWISS International Air Lines and a member of the Lufthansa Group. Passengers can expect to fly on an Airbus A340-300 aircraft and will be able to connect to the Edelweiss and SWISS global network through the ultra-efficient Zurich hub.
Zip around Zurich
Situated where the lake meets the mountains, Switzerland’s largest city offers something for everyone. You’ll be surrounded by nature but not far from one of the most famous shopping streets in the world, known as the Bahnhofstrasse. Stroll through Zurich’s Old Town and historic center. Take a leisurely river cruise to see the sites. If you’re really inspired and need a trip right away, book a flight to attend one of Europe’s most important food festivals, FOOD ZURICH, held from mid- to late-June.
