Port Statement on Duwamish Record of Decision

December 2, 2014

Today is an important day for Seattle and the Duwamish River cleanup, along with the many communities that depend on it, including the over 100,000 jobs which are the heart of the region’s industrial economy.

For over 13 years, the Port of Seattle has been directly involved with a Superfund Site Cleanup of legacy sediment contamination along a five mile stretch of the Duwamish River, joining early on to form the Lower Duwamish Waterway Group (LDWG), which includes the City of Seattle, King County and the Boeing Company.

The Port and our partners have invested over $190M in scientific studies and hot spot clean ups in the river to get started on this effort. We look forward to reviewing the EPA’s Record of Decision and continuing our work with them, along with our partners in the Duwamish clean-up.
