Description of Artwork
Beyond These Points We Are Changed is a set of relief cast glass sculptures organized around two themes, Mountains and Rivers. Installed along the airport skybridges, the bollards mark points of passage and transition, framing movement through the site as an experience shaped by place, direction, and moment.
The Rivers set focuses on communication and connection, using imagery that suggests flow, continuity, and the exchange of people and ideas. The Mountains set centers on access and threshold, drawing on forms that evoke entry, structure, and moments of decision. Together, the two sets create a rhythm of movement and pause across the airport, suggesting that beyond certain points, travelers do not simply pass through but are changed.
About the Artist
Sean Hennessey is a Seattle-based visual artist working in relief cast glass, sculpture, and mixed media. His work uses familiar and slightly nostalgic forms to build narratives around memory, inspiration, belief, obstacles, and the moments that shape a life.
Hennessey’s practice brings together relief cast glass, surface imagery, and fabricated structures to create works that are both intimate and architectural. Through glass, metal, and layered assembly, his projects connect image, structure, and light in ways that respond to site and public experience.
For the SEA bollards project, Hennessey developed a body of work rooted in travel, passage, and change. The Mountains and Rivers groupings draw on imagery connected to the Pacific Northwest and to the emotional experience of moving through a public space.
