Campaign promotes hundreds of job openings at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) launched a new campaign this week to promote the hundreds of jobs available at one of the nation’s leading airports.

“The airport runs on people,” said Lance Lyttle, Managing Director of SEA Airport. “We are committed to recruit and train the best possible workforce. With more people vaccinated and taking the opportunity to travel safely, we needed to do more to encourage our community to explore the benefits of a job or career at the airport.”

The airport campaign includes promotional materials on social media, community news outlets, and King County Metro bus and light rail routes.

More than 300 private employers operate at the airport, typically employing about 20,000 workers in more than a dozen categories of highly diverse jobs. Most hourly jobs start between $16.57-$18.00 an hour, although many specialized careers start at higher wages.

To create a simplified job hunting and career development experience, the Port of Seattle and many leading employers support the nonprofit Port Jobs.  

Based on site at the airport, Port Jobs consolidates a list of all available job openings at SEA and airport-related employers, connects job seekers with career navigators, offers support for resumes, interviews, and job applications.  Through a partnership with Highline College and South Seattle College, Port Jobs offers credit-bearing courses onsite at the airport with class topics and times that fit airport worker and employer needs.  A partnership with Alaska Airlines offers airport workers the chance to apply for scholarships of up to $1,000 for tuition and fees at an accredited college or university of their choice.

Airport employers seek to fill hundreds of jobs, including airplane cleaning, baggage service, car rental, customer service, drivers and delivery, flight operations, food service, human resources, janitorial, mechanics and technicians, office administration, police and security, ramp services, retail sales, warehouse and cargo, and wheelchair assistance. 

In July, the Port of Seattle Commission helped ensure that more workers received the wage benefits from the City of SeaTac Prop 1 minimum wage law by formally adopting minimum labor standards for workers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The move follows a sustained advocacy effort by the Port of Seattle, the labor community, and local Washington legislators to close a gap in the City’s minimum wage initiative.
