Regional Collaboration for Our Shared Future

Dec 02, 2025

As we conclude this transformative year in regional governance, I am honored to announce my appointment to the transition committees for both Seattle Mayor-Elect Katie Wilson and King County Executive-Elect Girmay Zahilay. Serving on these committees highlights not only the Port of Seattle's vital role in building a healthy and prosperous region, but also our dedication to collaborative leadership across different jurisdictions.

The Port doesn't operate in isolation. Our success is closely connected with the success and collaboration of our partners at Seattle, King County, and the broader Puget Sound region. Both Mayor-Elect Wilson and Executive-Elect Zahilay represent a new generation of leadership committed to addressing our region's most pressing challenges, including bringing affordability, opportunities, and safety to our region. These issues are not separate from the Port's mission — they are central to it.

Port Commission President Toshiko Hasegawa has been named to the Economic Development & Workers' Rights Committee on the transition team for Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson and the Breaking the Cycle Committee on the transition team for County Executive-elect Girmay Zahilay. On Mayor-Elect Wilson's transition team, I'm contributing to the Economic Development and Workers Rights Committee, where I can bring the Port's expertise in maritime and aviation operations, workforce development, as well as my own background and expertise in advocating for policies aimed at improving the quality of life for our employees. The Port’s work in advancing the Teal New Deal — combining maritime strength with clean energy innovation — directly aligns with the city's ambitious climate goals.

On Executive-Elect Zahilay's Breaking the Cycle Committee, I am offering guidance and advice on policies designed to break the cycle of homelessness, addiction, crime, and incarceration across King County. I currently work closely with law enforcement and service providers at the Port, and previously worked for years at King County’s Office of Law Enforcement Oversight, and I will be leaning on all my experiences in this advisory role.

We can holistically improve the lives of our community members by centering the voices of everyday people. That’s why I invite you to reach out to me with your input and thoughts. Write me at any time at [email protected]. I want to hear your hopes, concerns, thoughts, and suggestions. Please share with me your vision for a thriving Seattle and a holistically healthy King County.

Finally, I wanted to share that both administrations are hiring. If you’re interested in working for either administration, you can apply! To apply for a job with Mayor-Elect Katie Wilson, please email your resume to [email protected]. To apply for a job with Executive-Elect Girmay Zahilay, visit his transition webpage.

I'm grateful to both Mayor-Elect Wilson and Executive-Elect Zahilay for the opportunity to contribute to their transitions. I look forward to the partnerships we will build and the progress we will make together on behalf of all who call this region home.

All my best,

Toshiko Grace Hasegawa
President, Port of Seattle Commission
