From July 31st to August 2nd, the Port of Seattle Fire Department once again stepped up to support the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) during the annual Seafair festivities at Lake Washington. Marking the third consecutive year of this dedicated operational partnership, Port firefighters worked alongside local crews to ensure a safe environment for tens of thousands of eventgoers around Genesee Park.
Seafair, Seattle’s iconic summer tradition, brings three packed days of family entertainment to the shores of Lake Washington, featuring high-speed hydroplane races, awe-inspiring air shows, live concerts, and vendor activities. With massive crowds spreading across land and water, multi-agency coordination is essential to keeping the venue secure.
During the weekend, Port of Seattle firefighters took on a critical, dual-focused role:
Continuous Air Quality Monitoring: Crews actively monitored air conditions in high-density and high-impact areas, including the hydroplane "pits," shoreline observation spots, and throughout Genesee Park near vendors and concert stages.
Basic Life Support (BLS): Firefighters remained on standby to provide rapid medical response and BLS care to attendees and event personnel whenever needed.
This collaborative effort at Seafair is part of a growing, vital partnership between the Port of Seattle Fire Department, Seattle Fire, and other neighboring departments. Over recent years, these agencies have increasingly pooled resources, training, and personnel to protect major regional events. ranging from NFL games and city parades to large-scale disaster preparation and the recent FIFA World Cup games.
By combining specialized skills and regional manpower, local departments continue to prove that teamwork is the key to keeping the Puget Sound community safe.
