New Airport ID Badge – Step-by-Step Process

Please follow this step-by-step guide to apply for a new airport ID badge. Questions? Ask your Authorized Signer.

Step 1 – Authorized Signer: Pre-Enroll the Applicant

Pre-enroll the applicant in the Authorized Signer Portal.

Step 2 – Employee: Complete Electronic Forms and Schedule Appointment

Before your appointment, please check your email for a link to complete all required electronic forms. These include the Privacy Act Notice, Fingerprint Application, and Badge Holder Agreement. These forms must be submitted online using the link provided in the email.

If the forms are not completed before your appointment you will need to reschedule, and your application cannot be accepted.

Once you have submitted all required electronic forms, please proceed to schedule your badge appointment.

Step 3 – Employee: Attend Your Badge Appointment

Be on time for your scheduled badge appointment and come prepared with all required documents. (Note: If you are a US citizen who was born outside of the United States, you should bring your certificate of naturalization or certificate of citizenship if you have it-this can speed up your background checks).

Check in at the kiosk.  You will receive a text message confirming your check-in.  Then proceed to the waiting area.  Keep an eye on the lobby monitors - you will also receive a text message when a specialist is ready for you, including position to go to.

Background Check Processing

Background checks typically take 3–5 business days to process. You and your Authorized Signer will be notified via email when your background has cleared.

Step 4 – Employee: Training and Airport ID Badge Pick Up

You will receive an email once your background check is complete. Once cleared, you are eligible to take required training for your Airport ID badge.

If you need assistance with the training, contact Port Jobs for help preparing for STERILE or SIDA badge training. Study guides are available for STERILE and SIDA.

Training is available on a walk-in basis. Check in with the receptionist and bring a valid, unexpired photo ID or driver’s license for verification.

The training you need depends on your badge type and driving designation. Refer to the chart below for cutoff times. For current operating hours, visit our website.

Badge Type/Driving Designation Cutoff Time Before Close
AMA 3.5 hours
AOA 2.5 hours
SIDA 1.5 hours
Sterile 1.5 hours

After you complete training, your airport ID badge will be issued at the Credential Center.
