After a year of comprehensive interviews and analysis, the Port of Seattle’s Task Force on Port Policing and Civil Rights has released its final assessment. The report, by consulting firm 21CP, covers the Port of Seattle Police Department (POSPD)’s policies, protocols, and procedures impacting issues of diversity, equity, and civil rights. External stakeholders, consultants, and staff identified opportunities for the POSPD to meet the highest national standards achievable for public safety, transparency, accountability, and oversight. Through grant funding and partnerships with community-based organizations EarthCorps, Partner in Employment, and Forterra, the Port is helping the community transform Hilltop Park into a green space that can provide fresh air and a place to gather for decades to come. The work at Hilltop Park is part of the Port of Seattle’s ongoing investment in projects in cities around the airport to enhance livability, improve green spaces, and restore forests. Learn More
After a successful first year, the Port of Seattle launched the second cycle of the South King County Fund Economic Recovery Program, continuing to lead the region’s economic recovery in communities hardest hit by COVID-19. Community-led organizations are invited to submit proposals for projects with outcomes related to workforce development, job creation, or economic recovery in Port-related industries. Five Commissioners, elected at large by the voters of King County, serve four-year terms and establish Port policy. Port Commission meetings are normally held at 12 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at either Pier 69 or Sea-Tac Airport.
