The Port of Seattle Police Department (POSPD) was reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) on Saturday, November 15, 2025, during CALEA’s 136th Training Conference in Jacksonville, Florida. This marks the Police Department’s fifth Law Enforcement Accreditation award, a distinction it first earned in 2011.
The POSPD is one of only eight law enforcement agencies in Washington state to hold CALEA accreditation. Participation in the CALEA process is voluntary and demonstrates the Port’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all who travel through our gateways. This commitment reflects the POSPD's broader vision of being a world-class police department — one that upholds the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service to its community.
The four-year accreditation cycle includes annual remote reviews, during which the Police Department must provide reports and documentation demonstrating ongoing compliance with CALEA standards. In July, a CALEA assessor completed the final step of the agency’s assessment, an on-site visit, conducting a comprehensive review of POSPD’s policies, procedures, management practices, operations, and support services.
The site-based assessment was led by Wayne McCoy, retired Chief of Police from Blue Springs, Missouri. Both remote and onsite assessors reviewed written materials, interviewed key personnel, evaluated public feedback, and conducted a facility inspection to confirm compliance with all applicable standards.
