Dan has a solid track record of achievement in leading change, reducing costs, and developing and implementing innovative strategies and business process improvements to drive efficiency and agility.

Solid experience in a dynamic, market-driven public enterprise

Dan has over 25 years of management experience at the Port. He oversees the accounting, budgeting, and performance reporting functions, and directs long-term financial planning, treasury, and investment management activities. He also oversees information technology, risk management, information security and business intelligence.

Prior to coming to the port, Dan worked for a real estate investment firm and as a professional musician. He is past president of the Washington State Chapter of Financial Executives International, former Chair of the Northwest Harvest Board of Directors, and previously served on the Washington State Governor's Council of Economic Advisors.

Skilled in leading change

Dan has excellent strategic, leadership, and communication skills. He is a change agent who has led numerous transformation and business process improvement initiatives that have added millions of dollars to the Port’s bottom line. He has implemented innovative financing strategies in support of the multi-billion dollar expansion and renovation of the Port’s airport, seaport, and real estate facilities while maintaining a strong balance sheet and bond ratings that are among the highest of all ports and airports in the nation.

Commitment to fiscal stewardship

Dan maintains the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and transparency as a steward of public resources. During his tenure, the Port has consistently been awarded the annual Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting as well as its Distinguished Budget Award. In 2016 Dan received the Puget Sound Business Journal’s CFO of the Year Award for Leadership in recognition of his contributions to the Port and the community.
